چکیده

We use a new \aura" framework to rewrite the non-linear energy function of a homogeneous anisotropic Markov/Gibbs random eld (MRF) as a linear sum of aura measures. The new formulation relates MRF's to co-occurrence matrices. It also provides a physical interpretation of MRF textures in terms of the mixing and separation of graylevel sets, and in terms of boundary maximization and minimization. Within this framework, we introduce the use of temperature for texture modeling and show how the parameters of the MRF can be interpreted as temperature annealing rates. In particular, we show evidence for a transition temperature, above which all patterns generated will be visually similar, and below which a pattern evolves down to its ground state. Finally, we describe brieey some new results which characterize the ground state patterns.

On the Structure of Aura and Co occurrence Matrices for the Gibbs Texture Model

The aura matrix of an image indicates how much of each graylevel is present in the neigh borhood of each other graylevel and generalizes the popular texture analysis tool the co occurrence matrix In this paper we show that interesting structure appears in both the aura and co occurrence matrices for textures which are synthesized from Gibbs random eld models We derive this struc ture by charact...

Markov / Gibbs modeling : Texture and Temperature

Markov/Gibbs random elds have been used for posing a variety of computer vision and image processing problems. Many of these problems are then solved using a simulated annealing type of method which involves the varying of the \temperature," a scale parameter for the model. In this paper we analyze the eeect of temperature on random eld texture patterns. We obtain new results relating structure...

Gibbs Random Fields, Cooccurrences, and Texture Modeling

Gibbs random eld (GRF) models and co-occurrence statistics are typically considered as separate but useful tools for texture discrimination. In this paper we show an explicit relationship between co-occurrences and a large class of GRF's. This result comes from a new framework based on a set-theoretic concept called the \aura set" and on measures of this set, \aura measures". This framework is ...

Miscibility Matrices Explain the Behavior of Grayscale Textures Generated by Gibbs Random Fields

This paper describes an original approach to the analysis and prediction of graylevel textures gen erated as equilibrium states of Gibbs Markov random elds This approach is physically mo tivated by the analogy that exists between the graylevel textures and the miscibility patterns of multiphase ows The physics of the situation is captured using miscibility matrices that are related to the co oc...

Representing Texture Images Using Asymmetric Gray Level Aura Matrices

In this paper, we present a new mathematical framework for modeling texture images. Under this new framework, we prove that the Asymmetric Gray Level Aura Matrices (AGLAMs) of a given image have the necessary and sufficient information to represent the image. Using AGLAMs, a new similarity measure is defined, which is a one-to-one metric in the sense that zero distance between two images will g...
